Fall Protection: Connectors

Fall protection connectors attach the worker's harness to the anchorage connector and generally fall into three main categories: lanyards, self-retracting lifelines (SRLs), and vertical lifelines. Connector types vary based on whether a worker needs a personal fall arrest connection or one related to restriction positioning/travel.
Lanyards can come in the form of positioning lanyards (which control a worker's movement in relation to hazards) or shock-absorbing lanyards that contain an energy-absorbing unit to limit fall arrest forces a worker may experience.
Self-retracting lifelines retain constant tension on the line, while vertical lifelines allow for safety and mobility in vertical climbing environments.
